2018 Boston Marathon Registration Opens on Monday

Registration for the 2018 Boston Marathon begins at 10 a.m. eastern on Monday at baa.org.

As in recent years the Boston Marathon registration still favors the faster runners.

  • Those with marathon qualifying times—run since September 17 of last year—that are 20 or more minutes faster than the standard for their age and gender are allowed the first crack at registering on Monday. Those fast folks alone can sign up during the first 48 hours.
  • At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, registration opens for those who are 10 or more minutes faster than their qualifying time.
  • And on Friday, September 15, runners who have met the qualifying standard by five or more minutes can enter. Registration then closes from Saturday until Monday.
  • If space in the 30,000-person field remains, registration reopens at 10 a.m. on September 18, when anyone with a qualifying time can apply for entry. At 5 p.m. on September 20, registration closes.

How fast do you have to be to be eligible to apply for Boston? That depends. For men ages 18–34, the time is 3:05. Women in that age group must run 3:35 or faster. Times then slow for every five-year age group until 80 and older. Men in that age group must run 4:55 and for women, the time is 5:25.
