Electric bikes can help you do more and go farther than you ever thought possible. From extending your off-road adventures to boosting your commute and making running errands an absolute breeze, there’s an e-bike for however you like to roll.

That said, a good quality and long-lasting e-bike can be a big investment. Luckily, some states are offering electric bike rebate (e-bike rebates) and tax credit programs that can help. Click on your state below to see if you’re eligible to get an incentive when you buy a brand-new electric bike!

Why E-Bike Incentives?

The bike industry was already facing economic headwinds and higher duties. Then, President Trump started his second term with steep tariff increases that have made bicycles even more expensive. With major brands like Specialized and Trek already raising prices, many consumers will need help to afford these battery-powered bicycles.

“E-bikes are a practical and affordable solution to tackle some of our biggest issues we face with the environment and transportation,” Rebecca Tepper, Massachusetts’ energy and environmental affairs secretary, said in a release.

“Since transportation is the largest source of greenhouse gas pollution in the state, this initiative is important to our overall plan for a cleaner energy future that benefits every resident of Massachusetts.”

Arizona

Arizona offers a rebate of up to $300 for e-bike purchases, available to all residents .​

California

California’s E-Bike Incentive Project provides income-qualified residents with rebates ranging from $1,750 to $2,000. Additional local programs include:

  • Contra Costa County: $150 rebate, or up to $500 for income-qualified residents.
  • Richmond-San Rafael Commuter Program: Up to $1,000 rebate for qualifying residents.
  • Replace Your Ride: Up to $7,500 for trading in a used car for an e-bike.

Colorado

Colorado residents can receive a $450 tax credit on select e-bike purchases. Additionally, Denver offers rebates ranging from $300 to $1,400 based on income and bike type.

Connecticut

Connecticut’s Electric Bicycle Incentive Program offers vouchers of $500 or $1,250, depending on income qualifications.

Florida

Florida does not currently offer state-level e-bike incentives. However, the city of Tampa has provided vouchers ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 for qualifying residents.

Georgia

Atlanta residents may be eligible for e-bike rebates between $500 and $2,000, depending on income and bike model.

Hawaii

Hawaii offers rebates of up to $500 or 20% of the retail price for eligible e-bikes and mopeds. Applicants must meet specific criteria, such as being 18 or older and participating in low-income assistance programs.

Maine

Maine has expanded its electric vehicle rebate program to include e-bikes, dedicating up to $500,000 for this initiative.

Maryland

Baltimore has piloted a rebate program offering $750 for residents and up to $2,000 for income-qualified applicants, with at least 50% of funds reserved for the latter.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts provides rebates covering up to 75% or $1,200 of a new e-bike’s cost, based on income.

Michigan

Michigan has allocated up to $3 million for e-bike rebates. Ann Arbor residents can receive a $100 discount on select e-bikes and a $50 credit toward accessories

Minnesota

Minnesota’s statewide e-bike rebate program offers up to $1,500 or 50-75% of the purchase price, depending on income. The program experienced high demand, with 14,000 applications within the first 18 minutes of launch.

New York

New York State’s proposed Ride Clean e-bike program aims to provide a 50% rebate, up to $1,400, for qualifying residents . Additionally, Western New York offers $750 vouchers for eligible income-qualified applicants in Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

Ohio

Columbus offers rebates between $500 and $1,200 for qualifying residents purchasing e-bikes from approved retailers.

Oregon

Oregon has proposed a bill offering $400 for general residents and $1,200 for those earning 80% of the area median income for e-bike purchases.

Texas

Austin Energy provides rebates up to $600 for individuals and up to $1,300 for income-qualified customers purchasing new e-bikes.

Vermont

Vermont offers multiple e-bike incentive programs:

  • Replace Your Ride: Up to $5,000 for income-eligible residents replacing old vehicles.
  • Electrify Your Fleet: $2,500 incentives for municipalities, businesses, and nonprofits.
  • Standard Rebates: $400 for standard e-bikes and $800 for electric cargo or adaptive bikes.

Washington

Washington’s “WE-Bike” program offers point-of-sale rebates up to $1,200 for residents earning less than 80% of their county’s median income, and $300 for others. The program is funded with $5 million from the state’s Cap-and-Invest initiative.
