How to Replace SRAM AXS Shifter Batteries

Summer is here, so now is a good time to replace your SRAM AXS shifter batteries. Trust me, you do not want your shifters to fail on a hilly ride. I have learned this from experience. Replacing your SRAM AXS shifter batteries once a year is recommended. Yes, they last longer, but why gamble for only a few dollars? It is super easy to order your CR2032 batteries on Amazon.

Our recommendation is to put it on your calendar as a repeating event.

SRAM AXS shifters use a common CR2032 battery secured by a simple battery cover. You will need two batteries for the shifters, and if you are running an SRAM power meter, you will need a third battery there. Shifter batteries will last nearly two years of normal use, but we’ve found it a good practice to replace them yearly. This video will walk you through checking the status and replacing the battery in a few easy steps. It only takes a couple of minutes.

If you don’t have CR2032 batteries already, chances are Amazon can deliver them tomorrow or the next day if you are a Prime member. I found this to be the best option, as I never remembered them when I was at the store.

The LED on AXS shifter paddles and derailleurs can tell you a lot while pairing components together, updating the firmware with the SRAM AXS Mobile App, and checking the battery status.

The simplest way is to perform a shift and compare the LED light with the battery status chart to determine the approximate amount of life left in your shifter battery.
