When it comes to safeguarding cameras, lenses, and optical gear, the commitment goes beyond the field or the trail. Personally, I had zero knowledge about this. I would come home and set my camera bag in the corner, pull out the memory card, grab a small pour of bourbon and look through 300+ photos hoping that one came out good. My camera and gear would sit in the bag until the next time I needed it.
Recently I was introduced to dry cabinets, and I must admit, it was a new one to me. As a newer photographer, keeping my gear in a specifically designed, humidity-controlled cabinet wasn’t even on my radar. If your adventures include carrying valuable electronics into humid, wet, or rainy conditions, then a dry cabinet is something to consider.
What is a Dry Cabinet for Photographers
A dry cabinet for photography is an electronically controlled, sealed enclosure that maintains low humidity to protect cameras, lenses, and other gear from moisture damage like mold, fungus, and corrosion. It creates a stable, dust-proof environment crucial in humid climates or for long-term storage, often keeping humidity levels around 30-50%. It is essential for preventing fungus, which thrives in high humidity (above 60% RH).
The Ruggard EDC-125LT is a purpose-built dry cabinet that delivers silent, precise humidity control and secure, dust-sealed storage for any serious setup. For photographers, filmmakers, optics enthusiasts, or anyone storing moisture-vulnerable gear—this is not a luxury, but a practical safeguard.

The Ruggard EDC-125LT Electronic Dry Cabinet with Touchscreen Control (Black, 125L)
The Ruggard EDC-125LT Electronic Dry Cabinet with Touchscreen Control (Black, 125L) is the actual cabinet we are taking a look at, although B&H Photos offers multiple variations of Ruggard dry cabinets in different sizes and displays. We looked at B&H #RUEDC125LT specifically.

The EDC-125LT offers a built-in thermoelectric (TE) cooling wafer, the cabinet pulls humidity out of the interior air, dropping the relative humidity to safe levels within 1–3 hours. The built in precise humidity control can keep levels from 60% to 35% preventing most fungus from growing and finding a home in your. lens: That means far less risk of fungus, mold, corrosion, or dust damage on lenses and sensors—a known killer of optics and electronics. Owners will need to remember, not to keep the doors open for extended periods of time.
Just for reference, for every two minutes the door was open, the relative humidity inside the cabinet went up two degrees.
The EDC-125LT has no noisy fan, no compressor, no drip trays to empty. Because the unit uses solid-state cooling, it runs silently and cleanly—ideal for a quiet workspace or darkroom. The unit sits in my office, and I have never heard a noise out of it.

The glass-front door is sealed with rubber gaskets and includes a three-digit combination lock. That keeps dust and dirt out, and helps guard against curious fingers. The lock is a basic lock, this is not a secure system, nor was it designed to be one. Will it keep out a kid? Yes.

On the Inside
On the inside of the EDC-125 dry cabinet are 4 adjustable shelves that slide in and out to easily reach gear. Shelves offer 3 fitted padded shelf liners, and one contoured padded foam liner. I am not sure what the foam liner is designed for but it is not for higher end Canon L Series telephoto lenses or other larger diameter telephoto lenses. The liner offers 4 radiuses that are contoured to fit a lens laying on its side, but the contours are a little close together for professional series telephoto lenses. The bottom can also be used to share gear, giving five total levels to store gear.
Interior LED lighting will illuminate cabinet contents making finding your lens choice a little easier. With a quick push of a button see what’s inside before you even open the cabinet.

Simple Electronics
With the touch of a finger, users can change humidity pre-sets, dial in specific relative humidity levels, and illuminate cabinet contents using the simple menu layout for quick access to system settings. Select display color and brightness levels, celsius or fahrenheit readings, and other personalized settings. Choose between English, Chinese, or Japanese language menus. The controls are basic, which i find a relief in today’s world. This cabinet does not control internal temperature; the temperature it shows is the temperature inherited from the room.

Best of all, there is no app. Yes, I said it, there is no reason to have this connected to my phone.
Size Matters
At 125 L capacity, this isn’t a tiny box—it’s roomy enough to store most of your gear unless you have a ton of video gear or some really big primes. Measuring 16 x 16 and 35″ x 16″ tall for the 125L, it blends in with existing office furniture pretty well. If you’re building out a serious photography or optics collection, this size is a smart “buy once, buy right” move. Currently I have three bodies, several telephoto zoom lenses, numerous primes, GoPros, and still have plenty of room.
EDC-125LT is the largest of the single zone units, B&H Photo does offer larger dual zone units that are BIG, and I mean big. You can check out all 10 sizes ranging from 18L to a whopping 1280L. The 125L is an ideal size, it offers room to grow and can blend in with existing furniture pretty well.
