Begin your cycling season early and end it late into the fall with the new lightweight waterproof jacket from ShowersPass!
Are you itching to get out on the bike but rain keeps putting a damper on your plans. Then check out the Showers Pass Spring Classic Jacket. This classic jacket features super light eliteTM waterproof breathable hardshell fabric on the front and back for excellent wet weather protection. Light and stretchy eliteTM waterproof breathable softshell fabric is used on the sides of the jacket and sleeves to offer a form fitting but non-binding race fit.
This isn’t your old school run of the mill cycling rain poncho. At 300 grams and not super packable, the Spring Classic Jacket has some nice features. The Spring Classic design was refined with feedback from Pro Cycling Team Katusha and pre-production samples were worn by the team in the 2014 Tour of Italy.
The Spring Classic offers tunable air-flow with large core vents on the side and an upper back vent for flow-through ventilation. This jacket packs down into its own back pocket and fits into a jersey pocket when the weather improves. It is a tight fit but it does fit. Our guess is that a small would fit better then our large did. 3M Scotchlite reflective piping down the front zipper, on the back and a reflective heat transfer Showers Pass logo down the sides make this jacket highly visible from all angles when headlights approach. After every ride we tossed it in the wash and the reflective trim stayed on.
The Spring Classic Jacket is one of the more breathable rain jackets I’ve ever worn. On days when the temps dropped into the 40’s we would just keep it zipped up till the weather took a turn for the better. I would wear it as an outer shell and un-zip the side panels on climbs and after the temps started to reach the low 50s.
Red Kite Prayer writes “It comes in two colors, just-run-me-over-now black and cayenne. I went with the cayenne because survival.”
The best features our in opinion? The longer tail on the back is a super nice feature along with the venting make this jacket a winner. The Cayenne red color doesn’t hurt to be seen during daylight hours. Even though it is reflective make sure to have a GOOD tail light after dusk.
The Spring Classic we felt ran a little on the large side. At 185 and 6’2 tall I might go with a medium. No matter what your size, there is one that will offer a great fit along with its durability, breathability, packability and water protection.
All this fun stuff does come at a price—$289. Is it worth the investment? If you are going to put in the miles, you might as well stay warm and dry. The jacket will last you for years and red really never goes out of style.
