Dogfish Head Slightly Mighty

95 calories, real craft beer taste, yeah that is what the Dogfish Head Slightly Mighty is trying to offer. A good, solid, lighter style IPA beer that that won’t make the mid-section heavier.

Beer is Like Online Dating

Yes, drinking a low-cal “craft” beer is like is like online dating in “don’t get your hopes up”. If you are expecting a low-cal “60 Minute” tasting IPA, you will be disappointed! Kind of like showing up for a blind date you met online and the person is not what you were expecting. Not saying it is bad, just not what you were expecting.

Personally I blame all this on Dogfish Head. If their 60 and 90 Minute IPAs weren’t so damn good we would be comparing this to beer at a lot lower standard. Esquire Magazine calls their 90 Minute IPA “perhaps the best IPA in America.” Hard to be the skinny little brother to that!

The Dogfish Head Slightly Mighty is crafted for those watching their mid-section, and we aren’t talking about watching it grow.

The beer is brewed using monk fruit extract — an ingredient you’ll likely recognize if you follow a low-carb diet. Monk fruit is carb-free and calorie-free.

Here is How Dogfish Describes It!

The result is a hazy gold lo-cal IPA that throws tropical notes of pineapple, coconut, mango and citrus, all while delivering an aromatic hoppiness that makes it oh-so drinkable. Brewed with ‘lo-cal’ly grown malted barley, Slightly Mighty is dynamic and crisp with a refreshing hop profile.

The nutritional breakdown

Normally, the only two numbers that matter when it comes to an IPA are the ABV and the IBUs. Because this is a beer aimed at people who potentially follow a healthier lifestyle, a new set of numbers become more important: 95 calories, 3.6g carbs, 1g protein, and 0g fat for a single can. It also only has a 4% ABV so you’ll wake up up feeling ready to go even after a couple.

Even more interesting, the beer is brewed using monk fruit extract — an ingredient you’ll likely recognize if you follow a low-carb diet. Monk fruit is carb-free and calorie-free, two huge pluses for keto fans and health nuts. It’s also much sweeter than sugar, without all those pesky carbs.

Final Thoughts

Overall the Slightly Mighty is a solid beer, but as we mentioned earlier, go in expecting a lighter beer, almost a session. Great for an all day BBQ, post workout or even around a campfire. Several of us tried the Slightly Mighty and enjoyed it. It does offer a craft beer taste, keeps the calories low and best of all it is not a spiked seltzer or some crap. Compared to some of the competing alternatives, beer snobs will eat this up (well drink). Learn more at dogfish.com.
