Stumptown Coffee Roasters

One of the World’s Highly Rated Coffees Shows up at Our Office.

Recently we had the chance to try two exciting and delicious blends from the folks at Stumptown Coffee. The Guatemala Santa Clara & the Hair Bender are two blends worth getting excited about. While they will set you back $15 to $17 for a 12-ounce bag, both coffees are worth running through the French press and giving a try. Once you do, you will know why they are so highly regarded.

Stumptown Guatemala Santa Clara

Stumptown Santa Clara

The Guatemala Santa Clara features hints of apple, melon and evergreen, according to the tasting notes. Our personal experience was apple and evergreens, a crisp and easy drinking coffee with a bright evergreen aroma.

We brewed the Hair Bender as French Press and Chemex, following the Stumptown brew guide and it was outstanding using both brew methods. Very smooth and refreshing.

With the seductive smell of bright green fir, this composed, layered cup is the perfect example of the subtleties you find in single-origin coffees — Stumptown

The Guatemala Santa Clara is a single-origin coffee from the Antigua, Sacatepéquez Department, Guatemala region (you might have to google this later). The coffee is grown in the shadow of three volcanoes — including the very active Fuego Volcano. It’s this same volcanic ash that helps contribute to the incredible minerality of the soil, and in turn, the beautiful fruitiness of the coffee.

A 12-ounce bag will set you back $17 and can be purchased online at: www.stumptowncoffee.com.

Stumptown Hair Bender

Stumptown Hair Bender

According to Stumptown Coffee Roasters, the Hair Bender is their most popular coffee. On the coffee’s note card they write, “It’s designed for espresso, but delicious however you like to brew.”

We brewed the Hair Bender as French Press and Chemex, following the Stumptown brew guide and it was outstanding using both brew methods.

It’s our most popular coffee with good reason. A cup of Hair Bender has clarity and complexity; Indonesia’s rich textures are balanced by the classic flavors of Latin America and Africa. We use it at our cafes for espresso, but it’s great for all brew methods. — Stumptown

Cherry, toffee & fudge are the three main hints you get from this coffee. The cup starts with a round, full cherry splash and finishes with warm chocolate and toffee flavors. Together, the flavors are dynamic and exciting.

This is also a direct trade coffee, which means the roasters have traveled to this location, met the farmers and did business face to face.

Overall the Hair Bender is a great cup of coffee and we have heard from close friends that it does pour a killer cup of espresso.

A 12-ounce bag is $15 and can be purchased online at www.stumptowncoffee.com.
