Front Runner Tailgate Table Review

The Front Runner Tailgate Table is one of the most practical upgrades any Jeep Wrangler owner can make. It doesn’t matter if you’re overlanding in Utah, camping at a State Park, or sitting at your kid’s soccer field—the Front Runner Tailgate Table can handle it all and makes the experience that much better.

Simply put, the Front Runner Drop Down Tailgate Table is a great way to utilize your Wrangler’s tailgate space and make life easier. It is perfect for when needed and only takes up a few inches of space when closed. For 99% of the people out there, this is the perfect Jeep Tailgate Table

Made from black powder-coated steel, it includes an extending wooden tray. It is rated to hold 88 lbs and has a surface of 25.5” x 13. The wooden tray extends it an additional 17″. When not in use, the table folds up into a compact space that takes up less than 2″ of length in the back of your vehicle. Best of all, once we made a small modification, it is pretty much rattle-free.

The main table is large enough for a two-burner stove, while the side table leaves room for preparing the “essentials.”

The side table is one of the reasons this table is nice. Besides holding my High West bourbon, it offers a nice “bonus” work area.

What We Like About This Jeep Tailgate Table

I seriously love this addition to the Jeep. I truly believe that it’s the perfect tailgate table for most people. It’s strong, durable, rattle-free, and easy to use. The table has been used for just about anything from a computer stand to a meal prep station on road trips. The table can be opened & latched with one hand. So when your hands are full of food, climbing gear, or camera equipment, you can open it with your free hand. The slide-out wooden extension is nice and adds a little extra room, perfect for smaller, lighter items. Front Runner tags this as a cutting board but it was never used for this.

The table has many uses. It can be used for anything from a prep station when cooking to a place to cook, a table when tailgating, or even an uncomfortable office table. I say uncomfortable because standing and typing, the table is slightly too low, and I do not own a chair tall enough to make it feel like a desk. It is perfect for sending out a few emails or other quick tasks on a laptop. A two-burner camp stove such as the Primus Alika is an ideal fit.

The price on this table is also suitable for most people at $279.00. You can learn more at frontrunner.com or read more below.

When closed, the table takes up roughly 2 to 3 inches of space in the back of your vehicle. If you sleep in your Jeep or are tight for space, this might be a concern.

The latch keeps the table secure and rattle-free, and four adjustable stoppers (we just added a felt pad) help keep it from rattling. The table can also be set up and torn down using one hand.

Quality Front Runner Product

This is our first Front Runner review, but I must say that the build quality is great, and their customer service is awesome. This table is pretty solid and hasn’t let us down. As long as you follow the directions and don’t go past the 88 lbs maximum load rating, you should never have a problem. Just don’t use it as a chair or sit a packed YETI cooler on it. After a year of use, the only issue I really ran into was a slight rattle that 2 thin felt pads fixed.

Sliding out the wood extension can increase The table surface area by an additional 445mm (17.5″) length. The table tray extension can be changed to open either to the left or right.

Install of the Front Runner Tailgate Table Jeep Wrangler JL

The installation on a Wrangler JL took about an hour or so. I am pretty bad when it comes to anything mechanical on a car, and I was able to handle this one with no problem. You are required to remove the plastic molding on the tailgate and drill 4 holes. There is NO drilling into metal, at least on a Wrangler.

We installed our Front Runner Tailgate Table on our Jeep Wrangler JL here at the office, but the folks at Front Runner say it can also be used with the New Defender and trucks with rear swing-opening doors.

The Front Runner Drop Down Tailgate Table is also available on Amazon.com.
